They say, “a picture is worth a thousand words” and the right smile can light up a room, well, the teeth behind that smile can also convey a message about your self-care. Send a positive message by creating and maintaining a positive image with your smile!

If your teeth aren’t quite as white as you wish they were, take the time to make a change in the way that you are caring for your teeth. Coffee and tea stains, medications, normal wear on tooth enamel, and fluorosis (excessive fluoridation during tooth development) may darken your smile, but brighter days are ahead! You are in luck with both at home and in the office solutions!

Whitening Gels and Common Ingredients

If you are looking for a safe and effective at home treatment, our dentists are more than happy to talk you through the options that are available for you. Whitening gels are very common for at-home treatments. Ingredients frequently used include carbamide peroxide and hydrogen peroxide. Carbamide peroxide is a source for hydrogen peroxide. It is so effective as it is designed to change the chemical structure of the stains resulting in significantly improved whitening beyond just the top layer, resulting in longer lasting brightness! Another great thing about whitening gels is that they do not change the enamel on your teeth.

Quick Acting vs Slow Acting

Custom trays can be created for you at your dental visit for a more comfortable fit while whitening at home! A mold of your teeth is used in order to achieve the highest level of efficiency and comfort possible. Two options to consider are quick acting vs slower acting. Quick acting teeth whitening can begin in the dental office once your custom trays are created. The speedy results are achieved at a faster rate because there is up to 35% more hydrogen peroxide in the whitening gel than there is in the gel which can be used at home. While results may be seen more quickly, there is a possibility for temporary sensitivity to the teeth. However, ingredients, such as potassium nitrate and amorphous calcium phosphate, can decrease sensitivity.

Carbamide peroxide is a safe option for at-home application but will need to be monitored by a skilled dentist.  Once they create the tooth mold, you can take home the whitening gel to begin your journey to an even more amazing smile!
